Space start-up EtherealX has successfully raised $5 million in seed funding to develop the world’s first fully reusable medium-lift satellite launch vehicle.
Founded in 2022 by former ISRO engineer Manu Nair and aerospace engineer Prashant Sharma, EtherealX aims to cut both transportation costs and launch timeframes with its innovative rocket design.
This funding round was led by YourNest and included investments from BIG Global Investments JSC, BlueHill Capital, Campus Fund, and Golden Sparrow Ventures, among others. Unlike SpaceX's Falcon 9, EtherealX's Razor Crest Mk-1 will bring back both its upper stage and booster after placing payloads in orbit.
CEO Manu Nair revealed that the funds will be used to complete their test facility, finalize the 40kN engine for the upper stage, and produce the 925kN semi-cryogenic engine. EtherealX is positioned to tackle both frequency and pricing challenges, pushing the boundaries of current technology.
With full reusability, the launch vehicle can lift eight tons into lower Earth orbit and over 24.8 tons in a disposable configuration. It also has the capability for geostationary and trans-lunar orbits, marking a significant advancement in space exploration.
