The Global Health Security (GHS) Index, is an assessment and benchmarking for healthy security and related capabilities across 195 countries. The GHS index was first released in October 2019, in association with the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and the John Hopkins Center for Health Security at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, while working with Economist Impact.

The GHS Index 2021 report is not so encouraging with the global average of 38.9 out of 100, with visibly no change since 2019, showing continued, severe weakness in global health security.

Only 16 countries score in the top-tier for government effectiveness, while 129 countries scored below 50 out of 100.

There is an urgent need for global preparedness before another endemic or pandemic occurs.
