Deep Coral Reefs far away from being Twilight Zone

Deep Coral Reefs that were acting as a twilight zone to the marine life are now very far away from their role as they are continuously suffering from problems such as climate change and pollution.

The potential role of the coral reefs was to act as a refuge to the marine life but however, their condition is deteriorating day by day thus are becoming incapable of providing the support.

A recent study by the US-led team of divers who studied little know reefs in West Atlantic and Pacific Oceans between 30-150 meters found that less than 5% of fish and corals were found in deep water against previous records of 60-65%.

"The potential for deep reefs to act as a refugee capacity is far less then we have hoped for", the divers said

In the case of shallow reefs, the condition too is the same as they also are deeply affected by the climatic change and human pollution

Drivers, for instance, have found plastic nets entangled on deep off coral off the Philippines and deep corals harmed by warm waters of Bahamas

Rocha said that the scientist are even now trying to place temperature sensors in the twilight zone to keep a check on the rising water temperatures.
