Telangana topped the states in the country in terms of growth, clocking an average GSDP of 17.01 per cent in the last four years.

Telangana topped the states in the country in terms of growth, clocking an average GSDP of 17.01 per cent in the last four years, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has said. The states tax revenue growth rate stood at 29.97 per cent in this financial year so far, he said at a meeting with officials of the food processing department here, where it was decided to evolve an action plan for promoting the sector, an official release said Tuesday.

"...the state economic growth is excellent and has been registering consistently on an average 17.01 per cent growth rate during the last four years... we are also number one in the country in Gross State Domestic Product," the release quoted him as having said at the meeting on Monday. Rao also said the growth rate was expected to go up further as the state government would spend Rs 10 lakh crore during the next five years and emphasized the need for out of box thinking to achieve better results.

It was decided in the meeting to prepare an action plan for promoting the food processing sector, the release said. Observing that adulteration of food products was rampant, Rao said a brand name should be established for products rolled out by the government-sponsored food processing units. The products can be exported after meeting domestic needs, he said.

The IKP (Indira Kranti Patham) women group members need to be involved in the process, Rao said. He also said there was a need to effect a change in certain traditional habits of farmers such as crop preferences, adding greater results could be achieved if they were brought into the organised sector. Lamenting that there was not enough demand for Indian agriculture products in the international market, he said efforts should be made to overcome it.
