Angola will host the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Civil Society Organisations Forum, which is slated to take place between August 12 to 14 in the capital city, Luanda.

The SADC Civil Society Organisations Forum is taking place under the initiative of Great Green Wall (GGWI), a Pan-African programme that leads the sustainability actions in dryland management in Africa.

The objective of SADC Civil Society Organisations Forum is to address the challenges of combating the degradation of ecosystems. On the other hand, the programme also focuses on fighting poverty and building resilience to climate change, access to basic water services, health and education, food security, income diversification, civil security and space for peace and biodiversity conservation.

Non-state SADC actors will meet for first time to deliberate the main and future action to strengthen response capacities and affirm their role in the implementation of GGWI. It is also intended to create coalitions or movements of civil society organisations to identify specific areas of intervention for better implementation of GGWI.

Headquartered in Botswana's capital, Gaborone, Southern African Development Community is an inter-governmental organisation whose goal is to further bring into socio-economic cooperation and integration including political and security cooperation among 16 southern African countries. SADC's current 16 member states are Angola, Botswana, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
