Heavy rain forecast for several Bengal districts till Sunday

The metropolis and adjoining districts received light to moderate rain on Friday due to the formation of a low pressure area over gangetic West Bengal, the Met Department said. The well-marked low pressure area over north coastal Odisha and adjoining gangetic West Bengal is likely to trigger rainfall at many places in South Bengal over the next two days, it said.

Heavy rain is forecast for some areas of East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Burdwan, Howrah and Hooghly districts, a Met official said. Kolkata received "005.1 mm rainfall" since morning, he said.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from August 14-16, the official said.
