International Atomic Energy Agency head Rafael Grossi said on Tuesday that if the water level at the reservoir used to cool Ukraine's Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant dropped below 12.7 metres, it would be impossible to keep pumping cooling water from there to the plant, the Russian state news agency TASS reported.

Tuesday's breach of the Kakhovka dam has raised fears of a nuclear accident at Europe's largest nuclear power station, which is currently off-line.

Grossi said the plant had a number of alternative sources of cooling water, but that it was vital to keep its cooling pond intact.
