Maharashtra floods: Schools, colleges to be closed in Kolhapur and other areas

All schools and colleges will remain closed in Kolhapur district tomorrow due to flood following heavy rainfall in the region, according to news agency ANI. The schools and colleges will also remain closed tomorrow in three tehsils of Pune district and in five tehsils of Sangli district.

The flood situation in Maharashtra is getting worse as all dams of Pune, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur are 100 percent full and 132,360 people of 28397 families have been evacuated from all five districts of Pune Division- Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, and Pune. Six National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) units have been deployed in Kolhapur, six more units will be reaching. Three NDRF units have been deployed in Sangli while three more will be reaching. One NDRF unit has been deployed in Satara. 89 boats are deployed to help the people.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday reviewed the situation via video-conferencing and directed the state officials to do all that they can to help the affected people in flood-hit areas. sought help from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to expedite flood rescue and relief efforts in affected areas.

Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in several states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka, affecting thousands of people and leaving hundreds stranded. Even though the situation appears to be improving slightly in flood-hit eastern states of Bihar and Assam, it has severely affected the normal life in some areas of Maharashtra.
