Hungary seeks compromise with conservative to defuse tensions as EU election nears

Hungary's government is seeking a compromise with fellow members of the conservative European People's Party to defuse a conflict ahead of European Parliament elections in May, Prime Minister Viktor Orban's chief of staff said on Wednesday.

Gergely Gulyas told Reuters that Orban was in dialogue with senior EPP figures including group leader Manfred Weber, who issued an ultimatum for Fidesz on three issues earlier this week.
