South African economy contracts failing predictions

South Africa's economy contracted 3.2% in the first quarter from the previous one, Statistics South Africa data showed on Tuesday.

Economists polled by Reuters had predicted a contraction of 1.7%. Year on year growth was zero compared with forecasts of growth of 0.7%.
