China's President Xi Jinping said on Friday that external forces should never be allowed to interfere in the internal affairs of countries under any pretext, according to Chinese state media. Countries should be firmly supported to explore their own development paths and models of governance suited to their domestic conditions, Xi said.

"The future of our country's development and progress should lie firmly in our own hands," he said. Xi was addressing a meeting of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tajikistan via video link.
