A TMC leader was shot at and injured by unidentified miscreants in Titagrah area near here on Monday and the party has accused BJP of being involved in the incident.

The charge has been denied by the saffron party, who said the incident was due to infighting in the TMC.

TMC leader of the area Satish Mishra was shot at by bike-borne assailants when he along with local TMC councillor Manish Shukla were standing near an under construction Kali Puja marquee at Titagarh in North 24 Paraganas district, a senior police official of Barrackpore Police commissionerate said.

"Mishra who received bullet injuries in his chest was admitted to a city hospital. We have started an investigation. We have already arrested two persons," he said.

Local TMC MLA Arjun Singh accused BJP of being involved in the incident. "BJP and its goons have carried out this incident. They are trying to gain a foothold in the area and that is the reason why they are trying to terrorize us."

State BJP president Dilip Ghosh termed the allegations as "baseless and concocted". "This is nothing but a result of infighting within TMC. The same thing has been happening in various parts of the state," he said.
