South Dakota on Monday executed a man convicted of killing a prison guard in a botched 2011 attempt to escape from the state penitentiary, a state corrections official said.
Rodney Berget, 56, was put to death after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a request by his attorney, Juliet Yackel, to stay the execution on grounds he lacked the intellectual capacity to undergo capital punishment.
