The Kremlin said on Wednesday that Russian peacekeepers will withdraw from Azerbaijan's Karabakh region. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was responding to a question about reports of a withdrawal in Azerbaijani media.
"Yes, it really is the case," Peskov told reporters. Azerbaijan retook the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh in September last year despite the presence there of Russian peacekeepers in a move which triggered the mass exodus of ethnic Armenians living there.
