A clerk working in the office of the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare was arrested here Friday after Rs 14 lakh in unaccounted cash was seized from him, police said. Minister C Puttarangashetty who was not in the city alleged conspiracy behind the incident. "We have arrested a person by name Mohan. We are interrogating him," Assistant Police Commissioner of Cubbon Park subdivision Manjunath T said. Acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed Mohan when he was taking the cash inside Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat.

The clerk could not give any satisfactory reply to the queries on the source of the money and what the motive was behind taking it inside the Vidhan Soudha, they said. The Minister told PTI that he has no clue about the cash and that he was not in the office when the person was caught. Noting that there were three layers of security at Vidhana Soudha, the Minister claimed that there was some conspiracy behind the seizure.
