Kerala CPM leader's son gets bail in rape case

Binoy Kodiyeri, son of a senior Kerala CPM leader, surrendered before the police here Thursday in connection with the rape case against him, and was granted bail as per a court order. A 33-year-old woman has accused Binoy of raping her after promising to marry her.

A sessions court Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to Binoy (37), son of Kerala state secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) K Balakrishnan. "As per the court order to grant him bail, we arrested him when he surrendered and released him on bail," said senior police inspector Shailesh Pasalwad of suburban Oshiwara police.

A 33-year-old former bar dancer has alleged that Binoy sexually abused her after promising to marry her, and she has an eight-year-old son from him. Binoy has denied the allegations.

Oshiwara police have registered a case against him under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 376 (rape).
