Three persons of a family died Monday after junk Army shells from which they were extracting bronze exploded at a firing range on the Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh border, police said. Among those killed is a one-year-old child, Shivpuri Addition Superintendent of Police Gajendra Singh Kanwar said.

The site where the incident happened at around 6:30 am, in Masuda village under Khaniadhana police station limits in MP's Shivpuri district, is close to the Uttar Pradesh border, he added. "Shyamlal Jatav (55) and his daughter Sukhdevi (30) were extracting bronze from shells junked from the Army firing range in Babina which lies in Uttar Pradesh. The shells exploded, killing Shyamlal and Sukhdevi and the latter's one-year-old daughter," he said.

Another relative of the deceased, identified as Phul Singh, was injured and has been hospitalised in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district, he added. "Police and Forensic Sciences Laboratory teams have reached the site and are probing the incident," the Additional SP informed.
