Delhi: Man arrested hours after snatching woman's purse in train

A 26-year-old man was arrested here hours after he allegedly snatched a woman's bag containing jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh in a train, police said on Friday. The accused, identified as Pawan Sharma, was arrested from Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan area on Thursday. His associate, Nand Kishore (22), is absconding, they said.

A case was registered after the woman lodged a complaint stating that two men snatched her purse around 4 pm on Thursday when she was travelling in Kerala Express from Gwalior to New Delhi Railway Station, the police said. After snatching the woman's bag, the accused jumped off the moving train as it crossed the Nizamuddin Railway Station, they said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Harednra K Singh said the accused were identified with the help of a photo taken by the woman, which also showed the point where the accused had jumped off the train. Stolen articles, including diamond and gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh, an ATM card and some documents, have been recovered, he said.
