Meghalaya CM chairs meeting on 2022 National Games

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday chaired a meeting of the National Games Organising Committee here. The National Games is scheduled to be held in 2022, which also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Meghalaya's statehood.

The meeting was attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh, PWD (Buildings) Minister Comingone Ymbon, Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling and senior government officials. Different steps taken by the state government for the Games were discussed in the meeting.

"The meeting discussed the locations and venues for various disciplines and the venues were finalized in terms of the infrastructure that have been created and different aspects of the locations for the training areas were finalized," the chief minister was quoted as saying in an official statement. The state government has mobilized Rs 450 crores from different ministries and departments of the central government, Sangma said.

"We are on the track to ensure we are ready for 2022," he said. The resource and infrastructure of different institutions like IIM, NEHU and Assam Rifles to host games or as practicing areas was also discussed.

Also present during the meeting were members of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association.
