Zambia's capital city, Lusaka-based a commercial water utility company (named Lusaka Water & Sewerage Company) has suspended the water supply in Chirundu town.

According to the PR manager of Lusaka Water & Sewerage Company Patson Phiri, the high turbidity levels on Zambezi River have rendered treatment virtually impossible and all efforts have been made but the water quality remains compromised.

According to Patson Phiri, the required levels for Lusaka Water & Sewerage Company to supply water from a recommended standpoint is below 5ntus. But over 40-50ntus are getting registered in terms of purity.

The company has also detected that dark-colored water is also being emitted by the main production, hence it has decided to discontinue the supply considering the chances of any diseases, Lusaka Times reported.

According to him, the company obviously has a responsibility to secure the lives of common people. It has also deployed chemists to test the quality of water and give them the updates. Once the quality of the water improves, the company will restart the water supply to Chirundu town.
