Uganda to Rwanda – Katuna border post’s construction resumes, to complete in Dec 2018

The Ugandan government has declared that construction of Katuna border post has resumed. The place is considered Uganda's main gateway to Rwanda.

The government of Uganda had secured Shs 1.7 billion out of more than Shs 15 billion The project had commenced in 2014 with funds expected to be provided by the World Bank and the government itself and the work to be completed in one year required to complete the entire project.

The construction of Katuna's one-stop-border-post is expected to be accomplished by December of this year. Amugoli General Enterprises Limited was given the contract of construction in 2014 but due to non-payment the company suspended the work. Now the workers are back on the site and the ongoing progress looks well.

"It's our wish that the construction of this one-stop border post is completed as soon as possible so that the traders can get the desired services. There is a need for close supervision to ensure that there is value for money on this multi-billion project," Patrick Besigye Keihwa, Kabale district LCV chairman said.
