The Tripura unit of the BJP said Monday it would oppose the nationwide strike called by central trade unions and called upon people to boycott their protest. A two-day-long nationwide strike has been called by ten major trade unions, including the CITU and the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), to protest against the alleged anti-worker policies and unilateral labour reforms of the Narendra Modi-led Union government. Pratima Bhowmik, the general secretary of Tripura BJP, said the strike, beginning Tuesday, would inconvenience common people.

She also requested the state government to alert the police and the administration and ensure that the supporters of the strike do not harm people or damage vehicles and destroy properties of government or private firms. "Our party opposes the strike because it would cause inconvenience to people, paralyse normal functioning and spoil the work culture in the state. "We also appeal to people to oppose the strike and maintain a peaceful and normal life," Bhowmik told reporters.
