The 125th anniversary of the entry of Christian missionaries to Mizoram was observed with religious solemnity in the state on Friday with prayer and church services. Mizoram is a Christian dominated state. Two missionaries from Wales - Rev J.H. Lorrain and Rev F.W. Savidge, fondly remembered by the Mizos as Pu Buanga and Sap Upa, arrived at Sairang village on the banks of the river Tlawng on January 11, 1894, then known as the Lushai country. Community feasts were organised in many local churches of the Baptist Church of Mizoram while the day was observed as a public holiday. The two missionaries were also the ones who established the Baptist Church in the southern part of Mizoram.
