The Dallas Cowboys have moved Travis Frederick to the non-football illness list and placed Terrance Williams on injured reserve, the team announced Saturday.

Both moves had been anticipated.

To fill one of the roster spots, the team added David Irving, who rejoins the Cowboys after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Frederick, a Pro Bowl centre, was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disease that attacks the nervous system, during the preseason. With uncertainty over how soon he could return, the Cowboys kept him on the roster to start the season, but owner Jerry Jones said Friday the team had a better idea of how long Frederick would need to recover.

By putting him on the non-football illness list, he can return to the roster in eight weeks -- in time for the final quarter of the season.

Williams. a wide receiver has been hampered by a foot injury since training camp and has been on the field for only 39 plays through the first four games for the Cowboys. Dallas now has six receivers on the roster.

The moves leave the Cowboys (2-2) with 52 players going into Sunday night's game at Houston (1-3).

As a result, the Cowboys will release defensive tackle Christian Ringo from the practice squad. Since he is in his final year of eligibility for a practice squad, he can't remain there by NFL rule if there is an open spot on the roster.
