The Atlanta Thrashers selected MacKenzie in the fifth round of the 1999 NHL Draft. He spent four seasons in Atlanta, seven in Columbus and is in his fifth season with the Panthers.

Last season, he appeared in 75 games and had 14 points on three goals and 11 assists. In 611 career games, he has 125 points (51 goals, 74 assists).

The Panthers (3-5-3) are in last place in the Eastern Conference.
