The Seattle Mariners reached a one-year deal with free agent utility infielder Tim Beckham, USA Today reported Thursday.

The deal is worth $1.75 million with another $250,000 worth of incentives, according to the report.

Beckham, 28, has played all over the infield but has logged the most games at shortstop during his career.

The former No. 1 overall pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008 hit .230 in 96 games with the Baltimore Orioles last season. He slugged 12 home runs and drove in 35 runs.

Mariners general manager Jerry DiPoto had said the team was looking for a shortstop to "provide protection" for J.P. Crawford.
