Bob Keuchenberg, a member of the Miami Dolphins perfect 17-0 team in 1972, died on Saturday at the age of 71.

Keuchenberg was a six-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman in his 14 seasons with the Dolphins, also helping the Dolphins win the Super Bowl in 1973.

A fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles out of Notre Dame in 1969, Keuchenberg instead signed with the Dolphins as a free agent the following season and went on to play in 196 games, all with Miami.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Bob Kuechenberg," the Dolphins tweeted early Sunday.

His former coach, Don Shula, also released a statement calling for Keuchenberg to be honored in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

"I've coached a lot of Hall of Fame players, including a number of offensive linemen, and Kooch was as good as any of them," Shula's statement reads. "I hope one day he gets that ultimate recognition by being enshrined in Canton - it's an honor long overdue and one he certainly deserves."
