Five major league teams are valued at $3 billion or more, with the New York Yankees the only team above $4 billion, according to Forbes. In its annual list of team values, released Wednesday, Forbes estimates the New York Yankees to be worth $4.6 billion, a 15 percent increase from 2018.
Rounding out the top five are the Los Angeles Dodgers ($3.3 billion), Boston Red Sox ($3.2 billion), Chicago Cubs ($3.1 billion) and San Francisco Giants ($3 billion). Secondary teams in two-team markets were worth considerably less, with the New York Mets valued at $2.3 billion, Los Angeles Angels at $1.9 billion, Chicago White Sox at $1.6 billion and Oakland Athletics at $1.1 billion.
The Athletics, in fact, were in the bottom five, joined by the Cincinnati Reds ($1.05 million), Kansas City Royals ($1.025 million), Tampa Bay Rays ($1.01 billion) and Miami Marlins ($1 million).
