Cleveland Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco is out indefinitely after being placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a blood condition. Carrasco, 32, recently was diagnosed with the condition after feeling lethargic for several weeks, according to the Indians.

Carrasco "is stepping away from baseball activities to explore the optimal treatment and recovery options," the team said. The Indians said future details "will be conveyed at Carlos and his family's discretion."

The move was retroactive to Sunday. Carrasco was scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins. Carrasco is 4-6 with a 4.98 ERA in 12 starts this season. He lost his last three outings, serving up six homers and allowing 15 runs (14 earned) and 26 hits over 17 2/3 innings.

Carrasco won 35 games over the previous two seasons. He has a career mark of 83-68 with a 3.78 ERA in 219 appearances (183 starts). Right-handed reliever Tyler Clippard will serve as the "opener" on Wednesday night as Cleveland is going with the bullpen approach to fill Carrasco's spot.

The Indians also optioned outfielder Greg Allen to Columbus and recalled right-handers Jon Edwards and Nick Goody from the Triple-A affiliate. Allen, 26, batted .169 with one homer and 10 RBIs in 65 at-bats. The 31-year-old Edwards was 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in eight appearances for Cleveland earlier this season, while the 27-year-old Goody is 0-1 with a 7.77 ERA in 21 games at Columbus and has a 3.92 ERA in 102 big league games over parts of the past four seasons.
