Cop held while consuming liquor in Bihar

A sub-inspector of police was arrested here on Friday while consuming liquor at a hotel in violation of the strict prohibition law, the district police chief said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarpur, Manoj Kumar, said a raid was conducted at a hotel in Shukla Road locality under Town police station area following a tip-off that some people were consuming liquor there. Among those arrested from the spot where the hotel's owner Sanjeev Kumar, besides Manoj Kumar Nirala - who was posted as a sub-inspector in the same police station area, the SSP said adding that breath analyzer test confirmed that the sub-inspector had consumed alcohol.

An FIR has been lodged against the duo under relevant sections of the Excise Act and efforts were on to identify and nab others who were consuming alcohol alongside the arrested accused but had managed to flee, the SSP added.

Sale and consumption of liquor were completely banned in the state by the Nitish Kumar government in April, 2016.
