XLRI Jamshedpur has won the Kolkata qualifying round of 'The Sweden India Nobel Memorial Quiz 2018' held at the Calcutta Medical College campus. 

The three-member winning team secured 145 points at the qualifying round held on Monday. IIT Kharagpur secured the second position followed by Maulana Azad College, Kolkata, a statement by the organisers read. 

A total of 74 teams participated in the Kolkata round. Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Sweden, Gautam Bhattacharyya handed out the prizes at the inter-collegiate quiz competition which saw quizzers from across reputed colleges and technical institutes of the city and from elsewhere in the region, the statement read. 

The winning team will now represent the city at the national finals which will be held at New Delhi on November 1. The other qualifying rounds will now be held in Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. 

Launched in 2008, the Sweden India Nobel Memorial Quiz assesses a students knowledge about the Nobel prize, Nobel laureates and their achievements apart from knowledge about Sweden, its people, culture, Swedish innovations and inventions. 

It is organised by the Embassy of Sweden in collaboration with leading Swedish companies in India and other partners as well as the Consulate General of Sweden in Mumbai. It forms part of the Sweden India Nobel Memorial programme. 

The quiz is open to all Indian students currently enrolled at a college/university in India. The prize for National quiz champions will be an all-expenses-paid trip to Sweden. 

The awardees will get to visit the headquarters of the partnering companies, Swedish universities and the Nobel Museum.
