Anaheim rookie left winger Max Comtois scored his second goal in as many games, and goalie John Gibson posted his 17th career shutout as the Ducks spoiled the Arizona Coyotes' home opener with a 1-0 victory on Saturday at Glendale, Ariz.

Comtois scored on a breakaway with 32 seconds remaining in the second period, beating Coyotes goalie Antti Raanta low between the pads. Defenseman Cam Fowler set up the goal with a banked pass off the left boards at centre ice that Comtois controlled as he got behind the defence.

Left wing Jakob Silfverberg also had an assist on the play, his fourth of the season. He had three when the Ducks opened the season with a 5-2 victory at San Jose on Wednesday.

Arizona had a 6-on-3 advantage in the final minute after Anaheim committed the second of two penalties in the final 2:01 and the Coyotes pulled Raanta, but it did not get any good chances against Gibson.

Gibson had 41 saves for his second victory this season.

The Coyotes have been shut out in both of their games this season, losing the opener 3-0 in Dallas on Thursday.

Raanta, who had 19 saves, stopped a breakaway by Kiefer Sherwood with 3:18 remaining in the second period to keep the game scoreless, blocking the close-in shot with his left pad.

Raanta had a 2.24 goals-against average in 47 games last season, the best among goalies who played at least 35 games. His .930 save percentage also was second in the league.

The Coyotes lost their first 11 games and 18 of their first 20 last season, including their first six home games, and started 1-12-1. They won 16 of their last 27 to finish the 2017-18 campaign and are looking for their first playoff appearance since they made the Western Conference finals in 2012.

The Ducks have made the playoffs for the last six seasons and have reached at least 100 points in the last five. They lost to San Jose in the first round of the playoffs last season.
