Case against director: Madras High Court directs cops to complete probe in 3 months

The Madras High Court Monday directed police to complete investigation and file a final report within three months in connection with a case filed against film director S A Chandrasekar for his alleged derogatory remarks against Hindus and their beliefs.

Meanwhile, Principal Sessions Judge Subhadevi granted anticipatory bail to Chandrasekar, the father of popular Tamil actor Vijay, in the case.

The case was registered against him after Hindu Makkal Munnani activist V G Narayanan lodged a complaint that Chandrasekar had made derogatory statements about Hindus and their beliefs during a speech in November last year.

Being a Christian, Chandrasekar "has no right to interfere with the beliefs of Hindus," he had said in his complaint to the police.

Apprehending arrest, the film-maker filed an anticipatory bail application before the sessions court and when it came up Monday, it was granted by the sessions judge.

Chandrasekar had also filed a plea in the high court seeking to quash the proceedings before the sessions court.

When it came up, Justice PN Prakash directed the police to complete the investigation and file the final report before the trial court within three months.
