In order to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, May 12 is celebrated as World Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Day. Florence Nightingale also suffered from the fatiguing illness which was similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, also known as fibromyalgia. The day is celebrated with a view to spreading awareness about the causes, symptoms, and cure of the syndrome.

Nightingale was a British nurse who has been conferred with the title "Lady with a Lamp" as she used to carry lighten oil lamp during her night rounds in the hospital. She is also considered as the founder of modern nursing.

The lady had commendable achievements in the field of nursing due to her passion and zeal towards the profession. Even at the time when she was bedbound due to poor health, she continued to work for the advancement of nursing and lobbying regulatory changes to hospitals till last breath of her life.

CFS is a medical condition in which the person feels extreme fatigue or tiredness for a long time which does not go even after proper rest. Sometimes it affects the ordinary daily activities of the person. Its symptoms are very much similar to other illness such as joint pain, short-term memory, depression, tiredness nausea, headaches.
