'Radio Kashmir - In Times of Peace and War' highlights role of radio in J&K

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Tuesday that the radio had a special significance in Jammu and Kashmir, evolving from a small set-up to the level of influencing the lives of people in remote areas.
Releasing the book "Radio Kashmir - In Times of Peace and War", which traces the role played by Radio Kashmir since Independence in weaving a cohesive social and cultural fabric, he said the 10 KW transmitter of All India Radio inaugurated at Patnitop in Ramban District of the state would further improve the penetration of radio services.
The Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Minister added that a radio station at Udhampur would also be commissioned soon.
Speaking about the youth of the state, the Minister said that every year they were gaining top positions in civil services exams, which showed that youth of the state were hard-working and aspiring for a bright future.
"The youth are now well-connected with the world with the increasing reach of the internet," he added.
The book depicts a unique distinction earned by Radio Kashmir by serving people and the nation in this region, fostering and strengthening democratic institutions in the state, a Ministry statement said.
