Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said states have been told to identify the Rohingyas living in this country and send their biometric details to the Centre.
"The states are directed to identify the Rohingyas and collect their biometric details. The states need to send the reports to the Central government," said Singh, who was in the city to chair the 23rd meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council.
"The central government will then talk to the Myanmar government and resolve the issue through the diplomatic channel," he added.
Earlier in the day, Singh held the meeting with the ministers and senior officials of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha where issues of inter-state relations and security matters, including Maoist problems, were discussed.
