A five-year-old girl was tragically crushed to death by a bus operated by the local civic transport authorities in Maharashtra's Nashik city on Wednesday afternoon, police reported.

The victim's grandfather, who was accompanying her, suffered injuries in the heartbreaking accident. The deceased has been identified as Sanvi Sagar Gavai, a young student from the Nashik Road area.

Sanvi routinely visited her grandmother's tea stall nearby both before and after school. At around 1.30 pm, as she headed home with her grandfather, a Citilinc bus fatally struck her. The bus service is managed by Nashik Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd.

Following the incident, the bus driver fled the scene. Furious local residents and workers staged protests, demanding the immediate arrest of the driver, accusing him of being intoxicated at the time of the accident.
