Airlines Witness Surge in Technical Faults: 427 Incidents Till July 2024
Eight scheduled passenger airlines experienced 427 technical faults in their planes till July 19, 2024. Data provided by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol indicates that IndiGo, Alliance Air, and others saw numerous technical issues, affecting flight schedules and leading to cancellations.
Eight scheduled passenger airlines experienced a total of 427 incidents of technical faults in their aircraft this year up to July 19, as per official data.
Between January 2024 and July 19, 268 flights were cancelled due to these technical issues.
The statistics were provided by Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
During this period, IndiGo reported 46 technical faults, while Alliance Air experienced 51. SpiceJet and Vistara recorded 23 and 44 incidents, respectively.
Air India had 152 incidents in their Fleet A (Airbus) and 101 in Fleet B (Boeing). Fly Big and Akasa Air saw 6 and 4 incidents, respectively.
The cumulative number of technical faults observed in these carriers was 427 during the reviewed period, compared to 453 in 2023 and 529 in 2022. The data also revealed that technical issues resulted in flight cancellations for several airlines, with IndiGo canceling 49 flights and Alliance Air 45.
