Early Sunday morning, a fire erupted on a cargo ship docked at Paradip Port in Odisha as thermal coal was being loaded. Officials reported that the blaze occurred around 12:55 am while Eco Colonel Monrovia was loading coal through a conveyor belt.
To address the situation, the vessel was moved to the CQ-2 berth, where the coal was unloaded. Fire service personnel then managed to extinguish the blaze by sprinkling water on the hot coals. The fire was contained and extinguished by 2:10 am, preventing further damage.
The initial assessment by fire service officials suggests that the fire may have been caused by insufficient water sprinkling on the coal during the loading process. Paradip Port's traffic manager, G Edison, confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.
