President Murmu Highlights India's Potential as Global Footwear Leader
President Droupadi Murmu emphasized India's standing as a major footwear exporter, suggesting that further expansion could enhance the country's exports. At the FDDI convocation, she highlighted the opportunities available, while Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal noted the benefits of free trade agreements for the industry.

President Droupadi Murmu has identified India as a leading global footwear exporter, urging further expansion to boost exports during the convocation ceremony at the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI).
The President cited significant business opportunities in the expanding sports and non-leather sectors and noted government support to attract investment. India's footwear exports in 2024-25 were valued at over USD 2.5 billion, with imports at USD 680 million.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also highlighted the potential benefits of free trade agreements for Indian businesses and praised India’s globally recognized footwear products. He advised FDDI graduates to explore new markets and innovation.
