The DS Group, a leading FMCG conglomerate, has announced plans to expand its hospitality portfolio by exploring greenfield projects in India's Northeast region. Nathan Andrews, the business head of the group's hospitality segment, disclosed these developments, emphasizing projects that align with location-specific pricing and can be executed within four to five years.
Andrews highlighted the group's strategic focus on the Northeast, specifically in places like Kaziranga and Shillong, yet acknowledged challenges such as accessibility and seasonal closures in areas like the Kaziranga National Park. Furthermore, Guwahati's market dynamics limit the feasibility of super-luxury hotels, prompting a shift towards boutique offerings.
The DS Group, which has been in the hospitality business since 2000, currently manages six properties, including the Radisson Blu in Guwahati. By 2029, the company plans to double its room inventory through a Rs 1,000 crore investment and expand across India, leveraging asset management and brand partnerships to tap into both domestic and international tourism markets.
