West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee proclaimed her state as the commercial capital of eastern and northeastern India during a trading conference. She attributed this position to robust growth in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and geographically strategic advantages.
Banerjee dismissed allegations of crippling state debt, suggesting critics' comments were unfounded. She emphasized that West Bengal adheres strictly to fiscal responsibility frameworks, continuing development projects despite pending central funds.
Highlighting the role of small businesses in job creation and economic stability, Banerjee announced infrastructure and policy measures, such as industrial parks and trade facilitation centers, to bolster the state's business environment and competitiveness.
