The Punjab government's Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) has achieved a remarkable feat in reducing highway accident deaths by nearly 50% in the year 2024, according to AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu. He highlighted that highway accident deaths fell from 1,955 in 2023 to a significantly lower 1,016 in 2024, saving approximately 940 lives.
The SSF, comprised of 1,500 specially trained personnel, is deployed full-time and strategically placed at 30 km intervals along highways. This strategic positioning allows teams to reach accident sites within six to eight minutes, ensuring rapid response times.
Equipped with first-aid facilities and rescue tools, SSF personnel provide immediate medical aid and safely extract victims. Additionally, the force's strong presence has almost eradicated post-accident looting and night-time highway crimes, proving a boon for road safety.
