Turkish Airlines Flight Suffers Engine Fire: Safe Landing in Kolkata

A Turkish Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Istanbul made an emergency landing in Kolkata due to an engine fire. All 236 passengers and 11 crew members are safe and will continue their journey in a replacement aircraft on Thursday morning.

A Turkish Airlines aircraft, en route from Kathmandu to Istanbul, made an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport on Wednesday. The pilot alerted authorities after a fire was declared in the right engine, according to a statement from the Civil Aviation Ministry.

The Airbus A330-300, carrying 236 passengers and 11 crew members, safely landed at NSCBI Airport shortly after 2:30 pm, following the pilot's emergency PAN PAN radio signal at 1:38 pm. The fire was promptly extinguished mid-air, ensuring no injuries were reported.

Passengers will continue their journey to Istanbul on a replacement flight scheduled to depart Kolkata at 6 am Thursday. Modern jets like the A330-300 have robust engineering systems for fire detection and suppression, ensuring safety even with one functioning engine.
