Historic Union Budget Lays Groundwork for 'Viksit Bharat'

Former Union minister Prakash Javadekar has lauded the Union Budget as 'historic' amid worldwide challenges, declaring it a cornerstone for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Viksit Bharat' initiative. Speaking to reporters, Javadekar emphasized that the budget for 2026-27 offers significant opportunities for national development and captures the aspirations of Indian citizens.
Javadekar highlighted the pro-people and progressive nature of the budget, pointing out more than 350 reforms since its release. Key proposals include the Jan Vishwas Act 2.0, focusing on agricultural productivity and employment. The budget upholds the principle of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, receiving broad societal support, he claimed.
In terms of fiscal policy, the budget targets a fiscal deficit of 4.3% of GDP by 2026-27, with capital expenditure set at Rs 12.2 lakh crore. It aims to boost infrastructure in smaller cities, enhance manufacturing through initiatives like Semiconductor Mission 2.0, and foster growth in sectors such as agriculture, women's empowerment, and data centers, Javadekar reiterated.
