In a landmark move, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has introduced Bharat Taxi, the country's inaugural cooperative-run ride-hailing service, establishing it in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. Bharat Taxi, backed by leading cooperatives including Amul, offers drivers ownership alongside enhanced income through a zero-commission model.
Highlighting its ambitious expansion plans, the minister announced that Bharat Taxi aims to operate nationwide within three years. Unlike conventional platforms like Uber and Ola, Bharat Taxi promises direct profit-sharing and driver ownership, presenting itself as a national alternative.
The cooperative intends to ensure drivers—referred to as 'Sarathis'—receive fair income, health, accident insurance, and retirement savings. With over 3 lakh drivers on board since its pilot, Bharat Taxi reported daily rides exceeding 10,000 and substantial earnings distributed to drivers.
