The long-awaited 'missing link' section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is set to be inaugurated on May 1, as announced by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Aimed at bypassing the winding Bhor Ghat section, the new alignment promises to improve safety and ease congestion in this notorious stretch.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is expected to inaugurate the 13.3-km-long missing link on Maharashtra Day. Upon completion, the project is set to make the expressway fully access-controlled, reducing travel distances and time between Mumbai and Pune significantly. Shinde reassured that 99% of the project is already finished, with minor work remaining.
Developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, the Rs 6,700-crore project features two tunnels, high viaducts, and India's tallest road cable-stayed bridge over Tiger Valley. Shinde confirmed that the new section will initially be limited to light motor vehicles and buses, keeping heavy goods vehicles off due to safety precautions.
