Hantavirus Scare on Luxury Cruise: Passengers Await Repatriation
All non-Spanish passengers aboard a luxury cruise affected by a hantavirus outbreak are asymptomatic. They will be repatriated to their home countries upon the ship's arrival in Tenerife. Spanish passengers will quarantine in Madrid. Repatriation processes are in accordance with respective national protocols.
A deadly hantavirus outbreak has struck a luxury cruise ship, sparking a health scare. With all remaining passengers asymptomatic, non-Spanish citizens are set to be repatriated upon the ship's docking in Tenerife, Canary Islands, as per Spain’s Health Minister, Monica Garcia.
In her announcement on Wednesday, Garcia confirmed that non-Spanish passengers will not have to quarantine in Spain, leaving that decision to their respective countries. This helps streamline the repatriation process and respects international health guidelines.
The 14 Spanish citizens on board will follow a different protocol, being flown back to Madrid to undergo quarantine measures in a hospital setting. The measures reflect a coordinated response to contain the outbreak effectively.
