Gujarat in-charge DGP travels on Metro, urges citizens to use public transport

Gujarat's DGP K L N Rao promoted the use of public transport, including the Ahmedabad Metro, to reduce fuel consumption and encouraged citizens to adopt this mode of commuting.

Gujarat in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) K L N Rao on Wednesday travelled from Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar on a Metro train and urged citizens to use the mass-transit system for commuting.

''We travelled on the Metro from Ranip station in Ahmedabad to Sachivalaya station in Gandhinagar following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to save fuel,'' Rao told the media.

Office workers, students, traders and tourists should use public transport services, including the Metro, as much as possible instead of their own vehicles, he said.

The top police official also reviewed the security and management at Koteshwar Road Metro station in Ahmedabad. He said that the Ahmedabad Metro's ridership has increased.

When the Ahmedabad Metro started, its annual passenger count stood at around 2.9 crore, which has now increased to nearly 5 crore, he said.

During his journey, Rao interacted with passengers and received their views about the security arrangements of the Metro.

He also asked commuters to inform the police if they encounter any problems regarding the safety of women passengers during late-night travel.
