GST Collections Surge in May 2026 Despite Domestic Revenue Dip

In May 2026, India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose by 3.2% year-on-year to Rs 1.94 trillion. However, gross domestic revenue saw a 2.6% decline. Import and customs revenues showed significant growth, while state-wise GST performance varied across the country.

India's GST collections in May 2026 continued their upward trend, registering a 3.2% increase year-on-year to reach Rs 1,94,184 crore. This points to a robust growth trajectory, as reflected in the latest government figures.

Despite this overall improvement, the country witnessed a contrasting scenario in its gross domestic revenue, which experienced a slight decline of 2.6% year-on-year, dipping to Rs 1,34,530 crore.

On the brighter side, gross import revenue in May surged by 19.1% to Rs 59,654 crore, while net customs revenue climbed by 19.7%. Variations were observed among states, with Maharashtra maintaining its lead despite no significant change, and regions like Dadra & Nagar Haveli shining with a 38% revenue spike.
